Fair Play Award at PCU Chess Cup: University of Konstanz Team Honored

In a celebration of sportsmanship and frienship, the University of Konstanz team participating in the PCU Chess Cup 2023 has been awarded the prestigious Fair Play Award. This recognition stems from their exemplary fair play behavior, as acknowledged by the Referees, Organizing Committee and the event staff.

The team’s commitment to fair play went beyond the chessboard, resonating through their interactions with fellow teams. Referees and organizers noted positive attitude of the players, graciousness in victory and defeat, and adherence to the principles of fair play throughout the tournament.

The Fair Play Award is not merely a recognition of victories on the chessboard but a testament to the dedication to the principles of integrity, respect, and equity.

The commendable Fair Play behavior of players from two other teams, the University of Essex and the University of Munster, was also recognized and rewarded.

PCU Student Chess Cup 2023 started with AP Blitz Tournament on Friday, November 24.

Global Participation

The PCU Chess Cup has garnered an impressive participation with 113 accredited players, representing 30 universities spanning across 15 countries.

In a testament to their passion for the game, a substantial majority of participants in the PCU Chess Cup actively chose to engage in the AP Blitz tournament, despite its optional status and not being a mandatory component of the official competition

Champions Emerge: High-Level Play Rewarded

Chess playing students showcased their prowess in 9 intense rounds of Blitz chess.

Celebrating Chess Diversity the PCU Chess Cup, with its blend of FIDE and non-FIDE participants, celebrates the essence of chess – a game that transcends titles and embraces the beauty of diverse playing styles. As the tournament progresses, the interplay between these two categories promises to unveil more surprises and spectacular chess moments.

The players, ascended to victory, demonstrated a amazingly high level of play, making the tournament a true showcase of chess excellence. The unpredictability of chess unfolded with unexpected results, injecting an extra layer of excitement into the tournament. Some players’ performance surpassed their federation ratings, indicating a level of play that exceeded the numerical assessments.

PCU Student Chess Cup started with the record-breaking online blitz tournament

The “5th AP | PCU Student Chess Cup” is a unique chess experience, open for all university and higher education chess playing students worldwide, with or without FIDE ranking, in association with the Royal Belgian Chess Federation and with emphasis on Fair Play and Universal Friendship. The PCU Student Chess Cup 2023 welcomes 122 chess playing students from 16 countries, representing 31 universities and institutions of higher education.



In addition the “AP|PCU Student Chess@Home“, a free online chess blitz tournament, organized on 22 November 2023 welcomed 127 chess playing students from 28 countries, representing 56 universities and institutions of higher edecation.

The PCU Chess@Home 2023 witnessed an intense day of online blitz chess on Wednesday, November 22. The competition unfolded through 11 rounds, showcasing the skills of chess students in the virtual arena.

126 students from 32 countries participated in the PCU Chess online program.

Update PCU Student Chess Cup 2023

The PCU Student Chess Cup 2023 will welcome more than 100 already registered chess playing students from Morocco, Turkey, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, Hungary, Belgium, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Ireland, England, Czech Republic and Moldova. Meanwhile we are ensuring visas for non-Schengen players from 3 more countries.

Upon general request, registration modalities will remain open until Monday 20 November 2023 for new participation requests, limited to chess playing students living in the Schengen zone or in possession of a Schengen visa.

Registrations for the online PCU Student Chess@Home are still welcome until Monday 20 November 2023. All participation information is available on www.pcucommittee.com/chess

Chess playing students already registered from universities and higher education institutes from Morocco, Spain, Germany, Turkey, Switzerland, Albania, Finland, Italy, Hungary, Belgium, the Netherlands, India, Argentina, Ukraine, Indonesia, Estonia, Austria, Mauritius, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Romania, Burundi and Greece.
