The “6th PCU Student Chess Cup” is a unique chess experience, open for all university and higher education chess playing students worldwide, with or without FIDE ranking, in association with the Royal Belgian Chess Federation and with emphasis on Fair Play and Universal Friendship. Registrations are welcome until 15 November 2024.

In addition the “PCU Student Chess@Home”, a free online chess blitz tournament, is organized on 20 November 2024 for all interested students worldwide or those unable to travel to Antwerp.

AP and other Belgian students

Students of the AP University of Applied Sciences and Arts Antwerp and other Belgian students have to direct themselves to the AP Chess Club (De Rode Loper) for a limited number of free wild cards at schaakclubderodeloper@gmail.com.

Optional Blitz Tournament (Friday)

To ensure each participant of the highest travel and accommodation flexibility (for example late arrival on Friday or arrival only on Saturday morning), participation in the AP Blitz Tournament on Friday 22/11 is optional and not an official competition requirement.

COMPETITION FORMAT

The type of competition is Rapid Chess. The 2024 edition will feature a Swiss system with 9 rounds. Pairings for the first matches will take place on Saturday 23/11 before the start of Round 1. The student or team with the best Fair Play attitude during the Chess Cup is awarded with the prestigious AP Fair Play Award Chess.

DRAWING & PHOTO CONTESTS 

During the PCU Student Chess Cup Opening and Closing Ceremonies, the AP University will host the prestigious expositions of the  Panathlon Student Drawing Contest and Photo Contest. Participants, officials and spectators can enter the Photo Contest by posting their pictures on social media, using the hashtag #PCUpic.

REGISTRATION MODALITIES

General

Registrations are welcome until 15 November 2024 or when maximum capacity is reached (first come, first served). Participating students have to represent a university or institute of higher education and more students per university or institute of higher education can register at once. There is no limitation on the number of partcipants per student team. AP Students and other Belgian students have to direct themselves to the AP Chess Club (De Rode Loper) for a limited number of free wild cards at schaakclubderodeloper@gmail.com.

Additional Delegation Members

Participants can be accompanied by a coach or another non-participant. By specifying this in the registration form, the delegation member is subject to the participation fee of €89 and is granted access to all Chess Cup Package modalities. If you don’t specify this in the registration form, the accompanying person is considered as a Chess Cup visitor without Chess Cup Package modalities.

Payment

After registration an automated email will be sent containing the necessary bank details. Upon receipt of payment (€89 per participant) within 2 weeks after finalising the registration form below, the registration is completed. In case participation is not possible anymore after your payment, the participation fee of €89 will be refunded upon simple request.

    The PCU Student Chess@Home is a free online chess blitz tournament on Wednesday 20 November 2024 from 19.00 h to 22.00 h CET. Registrations are welcome until Monday 18 November 2024 and participating students have to be enrolled – and represent – a university or institute of higher education. The games will be played online on the platform lichess.org.
