The 4th “PCU International University Chess Cup” is a free chess event for universities and university colleges worldwide. The main objective is to offer students a platform where chess is considered as a valuable instrument to develop international interaction and experience, with emphasis on Fair Play and Universal Friendship. Registration is simple as explained on this website and the registration deadline is 1 November 2022. In addition, on Wednesday 23 November, an online chess blitz tournament (PCU Chess@Home) will be organized, to enable participation for all students worldwide unable to travel.
Note – The PCU Chess Cup will take place on location, taking into account applicable anti-COVID-19 measures.

2 COMPETITION FORMATS
1| ON LOCATION – PCU Chess Cup
The type of competition is Rapid Chess. The 2022 edition of the PCU Chess Cup will feature a Swiss system with 63 players.
Allotment of players to their place in the match schedule will take place on Friday 25 November 2022 during the Opening Ceremony.

2| ONLINE – PCU Chess@Home
On Wednesday 23 November 2022, an online chess blitz tournament (PCU Chess@Home) will be organized, to enable participation for all students worldwide unable to travel. Games will be played online on the platform lichess.org and take place from 19-22h CET. Registration can be done here.
The type of competition is Blitz Chess.

FREE PARTICIPATION PACKAGE
Each player receives a Free Participation Package and extra persons are welcomed as explained below. The Free Participation Package contains:
- 1 free accreditation to enter and use all competition facilities
- 1 free accreditation for the Opening & Closing Ceremony
- 1 free dinner in a restaurant in the city center (Saturday)
- 2 free lunches (Saturday-Sunday)
- coffee breaks during competition
- 1 free welcome bag with tourist information for each team member
EXTRA PERSONS
For extra persons (coach, …) accreditations are available offering the following modalities:
- 1 free accreditation to enter and use all competition facilities
- 1 free accreditation for the Opening & Closing Ceremony
Please note that all other modalities are at the expenses of the extra persons. Upgrade to a “full” Participation Package (with all modalities mentioned above) is available on request.

ACOMMOCATION IN ANTWERP
Each participant chooses and books his/her own accommodation and pays directly to the hotel or hostel of his/her choice. The hotel or hostel booking is considered as participation guarantee. The organization advises accommodation close to the competition venue. The student hostel the closest to the competition venue is The ASH. Below you can find an online booking tool of hotels and hostels in the Antwerp city center area with reduced prices offered by the University of Antwerp.

ANTWERP, THE HOST CITY
Antwerp is the economic capital of Belgium and the largest city of Flanders, the Dutch speaking region of Belgium. The city center has a population of 521,825 inhabitants, the metropolitan area over 1.1 million inhabitants and the Antwerp Province over 1.8 million inhabitants. Internationally, Antwerp is the largest diamond trade centre in the world, the second largest port of Europe and the Antwerp Fashion Academy is considered one of the best in the world, ensuring the highest concentration of fashion shops and flagship stores within Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. On a sports level, Antwerp hosted the Olympic Games in 1920 and was the European Capital of Sport in 2013. The city also welcomed 4 FISU world university championships and many international interuniversity championships. Antwerp will also host the 2022 FISU World University Championships Mind Sports.

DRAWING & PHOTO CONTESTS EXPOSITIONS
During the Chess Cup Opening and Closing Ceremonies, the University of Antwerp will host the prestigious expositions of the Antwerp University and Panathlon Drawing Contest and Photo Contest. Participants, officials and spectators can enter the Photo Contest by posting their pictures on social media, using the hashtag #PCUpic.

General modalities
Registration for the PCU Chess Cup 2022 is simple by filling out the registration form below and no entry or participation fees are required. The registration deadline is 1 November 2022 (or when the maximum amount of registrations is reached). Participating students have to represent a specific University or other Institute of Higher Education.
Participation Guarantee
Your hotel or hostel booking is considered as your participation guarantee and will exclude no-shows of teams.
Visa Requests
Visa requests are only accepted upon receipt of a finalized hotel or hostel booking. Please visit the website Visa for Belgium if Visa are required and for detailed information on the current procedures.

ORGANISATIONAL PARTNERS
Antwerp and its university have a long standing tradition with mind sports with former Rector Walter Decleir as chairman of the FISU CT Chess from 1996 to 2007 and Geert Magerman as chairman of the FISU CT Bridge from 2003 until today. Antwerp also hosted the FISU World University Championship Chess in 1992 and the University of Antwerp co-hosted the EUSA European University Bridge Championship in 2007. In 2022, Antwerp will be again the host for the FISU World University Championships Mind Sports (Bridge and Chess). To honor the legacy of the persons and events mentioned before, the University of Antwerp decided to establish the PCU International University Chess Cup and to partner with the PCU Committee to ensure an extended international chess network and with the Antwerp Chess League to ensure the best possible local framework. President of the Chess Cup Organisation Committee is Dr. Koenraad Keignaert, Head of Student Services at the University of Antwerp.
