On 16 December 2020, the PCU Committee acknowledged with the highest respect the acceptance of the Chairmanship of the PCU Drawing and Photo Contests by Prof. Dr. Herman Van Goethem, successor of Alain Verschoren as rector of the University of Antwerp. The acceptance, as endorsed by the PCU Committee Executive Board last week, memorializes profoundly the legacy within the University of Antwerp of Alain Verschoren as ambassador of fair play in university sport. Alain Verschoren passed away unexpectedly on 27 November 2020.
As a token of commemoration to Prof. Dr. Alain Verschoren, who passed away unexpectedly on 27 november 2020, the PCU Committee Executive Board decided unanimously, in accordance with his wife Lin Van De Cruys and the University of Antwerp, to name the awards connected to the PCU Drawing and Photo Contests after Alain Verschoren.
As rector of the University of Antwerp (Belgium), Alain Verschoren was the driving force behind the establishment of the drawing and photo contests in 2016. He acted as the first chairman of both contests. The first Alain Verschoren Awards will be presented to the winners of the 2020 contests.
